MAR 17: SHAMROCK IN THE GASLAMP
shamROCK is back for the 17th year and since lucky number 17 falls on a Saturday this year, shamROCK is opening its doors early to welcome over 20,000 Irish revelers into the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter. The 17th Annual shamROCK 2012, presented by Jameson Irish Whiskey and The Field, will take place on the most sacred party day of the year, St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17th, 2012 from 2pm until Midnight. Destined to be the largest Irish Celebration on the West Coast, this green bash will feature live Irish bands on the main stage, a 150-foot Irish Pub on the street, over 80,000 square feet of green Astroturf and two DJ Stages with amazing talent and much more!
Don your green and become Irish for the day as you enjoy the hottest line up outside of Dublin on The Field Main Stage. shamROCK is bringing together top Irish rock and punk bands along with Irish step dancing guaranteed to have everyone on their feet. The day will start off at 2:30 PM until 3:30pmwith San Diego’s finest Irish music by The Fooks. Test out your river dancing as you watch the elite performers, The Field Irish Dancers, step dance across the stage from 4pm to 5pm. Next up are the Irish Rock phenoms, The Fenians from 5:30 to 6:30pm, followed by the local cult favorites, the Down’s Family who will take over the stage with their Irish Punk Rock from 7pm to 8pmM. Then it’s time to sing at the top of your lungs to your favorite bar reels with American fiddle rock band, Lexington Field from 8:30pm to 9:30om. Last, but certainly not least, on the main stage are Irish Rock legends, the Young Dubliners, who will rock downtown from 10pm to Midnight! Between sets you can dance to DJ GRoy who will spin the hottest house and dance beats!
Looking to find the famed pot of gold? Follow the traveling rainbow and caterpillar across the rolling hills of Ireland to one of the two DJ stages to “jiggy” with it to the hottest national and local DJs. Everyone will be lost in the Irish haze as the new Electronic Ireland stage unveils itself on Fifth Avenue and F Street to rock the block! Be sure to hang close to this stage to catch top DJs from Donald Glaude to Kyle Felsch and Tara Brooks. To check out San Diego’s favorite local DJs make your way over to the 150’ long Whiskey Irish Pub on 6th Avenue between G and F Streets where you will find the hypnotic mixes of Mikey Beats, Hyena, GRoy, DJ Icon, Sid Vicious, and Scooter and Lavelle. Dublin will have nothing on our pub, which will have lots of Miller Lite BEER and plenty of Jameson Irish Whiskey to concoct any of your favorite St. Paddy’s Day libations. Your senses will be stimulated as 18 of the hottest go-go fairies dance on the back bar mixed in with river dancing performances to bring you back to Old Ireland.
This year, shamROCK 2012 will take place in the Gaslamp on F Street between 5th and 7th Avenue’s and 6th Avenue between G and E Streets. The main entrance is located at 5th and G Street, which has served as the gateway into a celebration of green for over a decade with sell out crowds topping over 20,000 attendees.
For the first time in the history of shamROCK in the Gaslamp, the COASTER will operate train service after midnight to offer revelers a safe ride home. Party-goers can also take advantage of two-for-one train ticket prices throughout St. Patrick’s Day. (Purchase any COASTER ticket or pass, and a friend rides along free.) The North County Transit District offers free parking at all of its transit centers (except Santa Fe Depot) providing a stellar driving alternative for people coming from North County and beyond. shamROCK festivities are only a few blocks from the COASTER’s last stop at Santa Fe Depot.
Tickets to the greenest party in town are only $35.00 in advance and $45.00 on the day of the event. Your wristband into shamROCK will get you in-and-out privileges, as well as no cover and food and drink specials at over thirty of the Gaslamp Quarter’s and East Village’s hottest nightclubs and restaurants. Remember you must get your tickets early because this event will sell out.
