ACCOUNT EXECUTIVES

We are currently seeking qualified individuals to seek new clients and expand the publication to untouched areas of San Diego County. This is a unique business opportunity for the right candidate. The ideal candidate should have interest in the bar, restaurant and alcohol industry.

Account Executives specific tasks and responsibilities:

• Performs necessary analysis and planning to assure that the objectives and priorities for each sales call are established and met in time frames acceptable to the client.

• Sells print and online advertising in an assigned territory.

• Maintains and grows current revenues from existing and new clients.

• Identifies and cultivates personnel in targeted accounts who make or influence advertising purchasing decisions.

• Develops or coordinates the development of sales presentations to clients and potential clients.

• Proactively develops new accounts and new business.

• Addresses or participates in addressing clients’ concerns, questions and objections.

• Works to close sales with each targeted client.

• Participates in negotiating pricing and advertising placement and content.

• Keeps sales management apprised of progress toward established revenue goals and of the progress in closing identified prospects.

• Stewards proposals, deals and post-deal analysis.

• Coordinates with one or more Account Executives who administer accounts on a day-to-day basis.

• Has a good understanding of magazine advertising and is able to develop deals that attract and keep customers while generating targeted revenue.

• Has some local agency / client contacts.

• Is able to develop deals that attract and keep key clients.

• Is establishing a track record in print, media, publishing or advertising sales.

• Has some success in developing, closing and maintaining strategic advertising accounts and events deals.

• Typically, incumbent has at least 2 years of selling experience.

TRAINING

Includes a comprehensive training / orientation program, as well as ongoing extensive support.

COMPENSATION

• Base commission: 20% per sell on all new advertising sales and on repeat/renewal contracts.

• After 10 sales: 25% per sell on all new advertising sales and on repeat/renewal contracts.

• Goal Performance Bonuses

Internships

SOCIAL MEDIA/NEW MEDIA

We are currently looking for a Social Media Intern for its web operations. The Social Media Intern will understand the value and mission of our magazine and appropriately represent us in the social media space. The ideal candidate should have wide-ranging familiarity with major social sites and services, deep personal engagement in social media and the ability to write and respond professionally. This position — based in a fast-paced magazine environment — will be responsible for monitoring, posting and responding to activity on the website and social networks. You should also have interest in the bar, restaurant and liquor industry.

Additional responsibilities include working with our clients to develop social media campaigns, developing ongoing relationships with appropriate partners, identifying potential opportunities for increased influence in the social networking space and keeping up-to-date with emerging social media platforms and opportunities.

Social Media/New Media specific tasks and responsibilities:

• Facebook and Twitter: Monitoring, posting website articles, photos/captions and other updates, coordinating contests, tracking winners and distributing prizes; connecting with clients.

• Going through magazine  to identify companies and individuals featured, including the restaurants/breweries featured to encourage them to post info and links on their pages, tweet about the stories, share on their websites, etc.

• Monitoring and chronicling growth of metrics for Facebook and Twitter and reporting on the relative success of various articles/promotions.

• Assisting with the development and growth of our email database for the purpose of email marketing.

• Researching/identifying community and business events and making sure they are being added to our online calendar. Communicating with partner organizations to encourage their posting events on our calendar.

• Monitoring the “Twittersphere” to identify topics relevant to Happy Hour Magazine so we can have more frequent updates and increase our following. Identify additional people/organizations to follow and help in strategy to increase our standing in the Twitter community and drive traffic back to our website and Facebook pages.

• Assist in promotion and coordination of events that have a social media or new media tie-ins.

• Monitor and report on social media activity of competitors and identify opportunities/make recommendations.

• Help develop a social media “best practices” playbook for the company.

• Handle and monitor the website contests.

• Ability and knowledge of working on a WordPress platform.

WRITERS

We are currently looking for writers for Happy Hour Magazine. Each writer  will understand the value and mission of our magazine. The ideal candidate should have interest in the bar, restaurant and alcohol industry.

This position is available to an individual that has a passion to write or a student who is interested in a career in writing, journalism, or public relations. Requires someone with an energetic, friendly and upbeat attitude. Writing, computer, phone and organizational skills are required.  Previous journalism experience isn’t necessary, but we’ll ask to see some examples of other types of writing.

This is a great opportunity for the right person to gain practical experience with a network filled with fantastic connections.

Additional responsibilities include working with the Publisher to develop content, and the ability to brainstorm to create future compelling and interesting content.

Writers specific tasks and responsibilities:

• Assist with the Publisher to develop future editorial ideas.

• Research, develop, interview (telephone, person or email) and compile an interesting article (at least one article every two months) on a particular subject agreed by the Publisher.

• Able to come up with future story and feature ideas.

• The ability to make important publishing deadlines.

We are currently looking for Happy Hour Magazine Bloggers. The job involves writing, blogging and news clipping for the Happy Hour Magazine website. The ideal candidate should have interest in the bar, restaurant and alcohol industry.

This position is available to to an individual that has a passion to write or a student who is interested in a career in writing, journalism, community organizing or public relations. This position requires someone with an energetic, friendly and upbeat attitude. Writing, computer, phone and organizational skills are required. Previous journalism experience isn’t necessary, but we’ll ask to see some examples of other types of writing.

This is a great opportunity for the right person to gain practical experience with a network filled with fantastic connections.

Additional responsibilities include working with the Publisher and individually to brainstorm future magazine editorial,  identifying potential opportunities for increased influence in the social networking space and keeping up-to-date with emerging social media platforms and opportunities.

Blogging specific tasks and responsibilities:

• Blogging and posting current relevant news stories daily (at least two-three per day Mon-Fri and one-two Sat-Sun).

• News clip posts to are be live before 9am pst, second by 12pm pst and the last by 5pm pst.

• Post at lest one relevant picture with each post.

• Ability and knowledge of working on a WordPress platform.

• Able to come up with future story and feature ideas.

• Knowledge of Social Media and the ability to post news stories and blogs via the company’s Facebook and Twitter.

• Attracts attention to event by developing publicity and announcement materials.

Photography Intern specific tasks and responsibilities:

• Work directly with the Art Director and Staff Photographers on a wide variety of photo assignments, big and small for the print publication and website.

• Opportunity to attend photo shoots with some of our seasoned stylists and photographers to assist or observe on location.

• Receive hands-on experience, tear-sheets and portfolio building skills.

• Candidates should have an expressed interest shooting editorial, magazine-style work.
